Isn’t this simply out of this world?
This is Jiayuguan Pass, on the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province.
The mountain range at the back is the Qilian Shan range, and it was the sole passage in and out of the ‘Middle Kingdom’ in the past. Hard to imagine this was the place, where the Great Wall ends, where convicts were once banished and forced out to the ‘wild west’.
I’m somehow enthralled by the mysterious tranquility of this place. It must have braved centuries of summer sandstorms and blizzards, seen so much misery and suffering, and yet it stands so strong and fortified.
Looking forward to having nothing more than my shadow on this isolated and forgotten piece of history here sometime.
