So this is what usually happens late in the fall in North China – millions of farmers leave their villages for a mini ‘expedition’ to the big cities. They arrive in flocks, dropped off in designated areas around the city, and get busy.
The task: wrap up all our trees. Even the pine trees that seem to thrive in Europe over Christmas!
It’s rather sad on the one hand because autumn brings such fantastic colours to the city. The skies are so clear. The yellow leaves rustle on the branches like little gold coins. Really a wonderful sight.
But it’s also kinda cool to see the trees slowly wind down. Each enclosed in their little cocoons. They really look like giant lollipops!
The annual heating 供暖 for North China, which usually starts on 15th Nov – came early this year. We – and the cats – are all very pleased indeed. 🙂
