A new beginning, yet again

May-your-choices-reflect-your-hopes-not-your-fears.-Nelson-Mandela

Ahh. the familiar feels of being thrown out of our comfort zone again.

Today marks the day that we officially begin a new life. Well, somewhat new. And I thought it would be timely to remind ourselves that the choices we make in life, reflect what we aspire toward.

Vincent takes off on a plane to Beijing, where he will start a new journey for all of us as he begins his new role in a new organization.

To think that six months ago, we headed off to Beijing again after 5 years of not having visited, with Kai En in tow, for the mere task of renewing our Chinese drivers’ licenses. For those who didn’t know about this story – this was by far the hardest license Vincent and I had ever fought to obtain. And it wasn’t even about the tests. Just the sheer number of administrative hoops we had to jump through to apply to take the Driving Test was mind-boggling. The eye-test, the sanity test, application for residence permit (which Vincent actually didn’t pass, because his residence permit in Tianjin didn’t match his Visa permit from Beijing – two different municipalities), the application for the test…

Anyway, the trip in April this year turned out to be quite a serendipitous journey. We had the best time with Kai exploring our old hoods, enjoying the sights and sounds through his little eyes, playing amongst the cherry blossoms along the Great Wall. And then we thought, “wouldn’t it be nice if we had the chance to live in China again?” It was a thought we brushed aside quickly, knowing full well of the chances of one (let alone two of us) securing a job that would match our current lifestyle in Singapore.

And it was as if someone had been listening. The very night we arrived back to Singapore, Vincent received a call from a headhunter of an opportunity in Beijing. The rest, they say, is history.

Fast forward – we have since both decided as a family to take the plunge. The move will be a mammoth task now that we have two boys (age 1 and 4) to raise, plus being our deal old Trixie back to China with us again. If cats could speak…

So one photo for memory, of my dearest better half, who never seizes to amaze me with his insatiable desire to explore the depths of life’s richest, craziest experiences. Wish us luck this time!
